Starry Night Over the Rhône
"Starry Night Over the Rhône" is one of Vincent van Gogh's paintings of Arles at night, made on the bank of the Rhône a minute or two's walk from the Yellow House on the Place Lamartine that he was renting at the time.
It depicts the night sky over the river, with the town's gas lighting reflected in the water and a couple strolling along the foreground bank. Painted in September 1888, it is held by the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and predates the more famous "The Starry Night" by nearly a year.
